LOCKEDIN / FORWARD-DEPLOYED ENGINEERING 101
Understand it.
Then build it.
You can be an experienced engineer and still be new to agents. Start with what each thing is and how it helps a person do useful work. Explore 48 original introductions across software, agents, cloud, security and delivery. Start here without a model key; each topic connects to deeper instruction and practice.

Cloud platform, model catalog and provider
What is Azure AI, and where does Claude fit?
Azure is Microsoft's cloud platform. Microsoft Foundry provides capabilities for building and operating AI applications and accessing models. Claude is Anthropic's model family and can be offered through supported Foundry deployments. The platform, model provider and application are distinct responsibilities.
An FDE must explain precisely where customer data goes and which identity reaches which endpoint.
CONNECT IT TO WHAT YOU KNOW
Start with something familiar.
An enterprise software catalog can offer components from different suppliers. Selecting a component does not make all hosting, data and support arrangements identical.
Check the exact Claude deployment's hosting arrangement, region, supported API and data terms. Do not assume every Foundry model runs on the same infrastructure or offers the same controls.
Words worth knowing
- Microsoft Foundry
- Microsoft's platform for building and managing AI workloads.
- Deployment
- A configured instance or access arrangement for a model or application.
- Managed identity
- An Azure workload identity that can avoid embedding long-lived credentials.
ONE EXAMPLE / FICTIONAL CASE
Watch the work take shape.
A customer wants Claude for drafting while keeping its procedure store and application in its approved Azure environment.

- 02Map access
- 03Validate the behavior
Inspect the offering
Read the current model documentation for deployment availability, hosting and supported interfaces.
A verified deployment choiceFROM RECOGNITION TO REASONING
Compare direct Claude access with a supported Foundry deployment.
- 01
Record endpoint, identity and hosting arrangement from current documentation.
- 02
Mark where prompts and logs may be processed.
- 03
List which differences require customer security review.
A comparison with unknowns explicitly marked.
Compare your reasoning when you are ready
A common model name is not enough to infer identical processing locations or terms. Verify the exact offering and keep access decisions outside prompts.
Keep notes in your own working copy. Moving through these cards does not record completion.
TURN THE IDEA INTO USEFUL WORK
You can now go deeper.
