LOCKEDIN / FORWARD-DEPLOYED ENGINEERING 101
Understand it.
Then build it.
You can be an experienced engineer and still be new to agents. Start with what each thing is and how it helps a person do useful work. Explore 48 original introductions across software, agents, cloud, security and delivery. Start here without a model key; each topic connects to deeper instruction and practice.

An architectural style
What is a RESTful API?
REST means Representational State Transfer. It is a style for designing networked systems around resources and a uniform interface. In common HTTP APIs, URLs identify resources and methods such as GET and POST describe operations. Returning JSON alone does not make an API RESTful.
You need predictable interfaces before letting agents call enterprise services.
CONNECT IT TO WHAT YOU KNOW
Start with something familiar.
Imagine a shared catalog: a stable address identifies each ticket, while agreed operations tell clients how to read or create one.
REST is a design style; HTTP is a communication protocol; JSON is a data format; FastAPI is one framework you can use to implement an HTTP API.
Words worth knowing
- Resource
- The thing identified and manipulated through the interface.
- Representation
- The data returned about a resource.
- Stateless request
- A request carries the information needed to understand it; servers can still store resource state.
ONE EXAMPLE / FICTIONAL CASE
Watch the work take shape.
Read ticket T-104 with GET /tickets/T-104. Creating a ticket uses a different operation and requires write permission.
- 01Identify the resource
- 02Use method semantics
- 03Handle the result
Identify the resource
Choose a stable resource identifier rather than a vague action string.
/tickets/T-104FROM RECOGNITION TO REASONING
Design a read and a create operation for service tickets.
- 01
Write their methods, paths and inputs.
- 02
Explain why a GET request must not dispatch a technician.
- 03
Describe what you do if creation times out after the server may have stored it.
Two operation contracts and an uncertain-write recovery note.
Compare your reasoning when you are ready
Read operations should be safe. For a creation timeout, reconcile the original request identifier if the service supports it; do not assume nothing happened.
Keep notes in your own working copy. Moving through these cards does not record completion.
TURN THE IDEA INTO USEFUL WORK
