LOCKEDIN / FORWARD-DEPLOYED ENGINEERING 101
Understand it.
Then build it.
You can be an experienced engineer and still be new to agents. Start with what each thing is and how it helps a person do useful work. Explore 48 original introductions across software, agents, cloud, security and delivery. Start here without a model key; each topic connects to deeper instruction and practice.

Packaging and operating software
What are containers and deployment?
A container runs an application with packaged dependencies in an isolated process environment. An image is the packaged template; a container is a running instance. Deployment places a version into an environment with configuration, identity, networking, storage and an operator.
A laptop demo must survive deployment, restarts and handover to a team that did not build it.
CONNECT IT TO WHAT YOU KNOW
Start with something familiar.
An image is a reproducible installation recipe. Running that recipe still needs a machine, permissions and a place to put durable data.
A container is not a durable database, a full virtual machine or an automatic security guarantee. Replacing it should not erase important workflow state.
Words worth knowing
- Image
- A template containing the application and its runtime files.
- Container
- A running instance with process isolation.
- Readiness
- Whether a service can currently accept its intended workload.
ONE EXAMPLE / FICTIONAL CASE
Watch the work take shape.
A review is pending when the agent worker is replaced by a new version.

- 02Configure
- 03Replace safely
Package
Pin the application and dependencies into a reproducible image. Keep credentials out of the image.
A versioned artifactFROM RECOGNITION TO REASONING
Separate replaceable and durable parts of an agent service.
- 01
List code, credentials, review state and uploaded documents.
- 02
Place each in the image, runtime configuration or durable storage.
- 03
Explain how a replacement worker resumes pending work.
A deployment sketch and a restart scenario.
Compare your reasoning when you are ready
Code belongs in the versioned artifact; credentials are injected securely; reviews need durable storage. A process restart cannot be the mechanism that forgets a denied decision.
Keep notes in your own working copy. Moving through these cards does not record completion.
TURN THE IDEA INTO USEFUL WORK
You can now go deeper.
