LOCKEDIN / FORWARD-DEPLOYED ENGINEERING 101
Understand it.
Then build it.
You can be an experienced engineer and still be new to agents. Start with what each thing is and how it helps a person do useful work. Explore 48 original introductions across software, agents, cloud, security and delivery. Start here without a model key; each topic connects to deeper instruction and practice.

Reliable distributed work
Why use queues, workers and idempotency?
A queue holds work for a worker to process outside the original request. A lease temporarily assigns that work. Idempotency means repeating an operation has the same intended effect as doing it once. These concepts matter because messages and requests can be delivered more than once.
Agent tasks are often slower than web requests and depend on unreliable remote services.
CONNECT IT TO WHAT YOU KNOW
Start with something familiar.
A work-order desk can hand the same ticket to a replacement technician after an interruption. The ticket identifier must prevent two separate jobs from being created accidentally.
A timeout means the result is unknown, not necessarily that the operation failed. Reconcile the recorded outcome before repeating an irreversible action.
Words worth knowing
- Queue
- A buffer of work waiting for processing.
- Lease
- Temporary permission to work on a task.
- Idempotency key
- A stable identifier used to recognize repeat requests for the same operation.
ONE EXAMPLE / FICTIONAL CASE
Watch the work take shape.
A ticket was stored, but the worker died before it acknowledged completion.
- 01Accept
- 02Lease and process
- 03Reconcile
Accept
Store a stable request identifier and enqueue bounded work.
A trackable jobFROM RECOGNITION TO REASONING
Rehearse a worker crash after storage but before acknowledgement.
- 01
Write the stable job identifier.
- 02
Mark when the business effect happens and when the acknowledgement happens.
- 03
Describe how the replacement worker finds the existing result.
A timeline with one business effect across two attempts.
Compare your reasoning when you are ready
Exactly-once business behavior needs an end-to-end contract, not a promise from a queue alone. The receiver's recorded result matters when the response disappears.
Keep notes in your own working copy. Moving through these cards does not record completion.
TURN THE IDEA INTO USEFUL WORK
You can now go deeper.
A timeout means the result is unknown, not necessarily that the operation failed. Reconcile the recorded outcome before repeating an irreversible action.
