LOCKEDIN / FORWARD-DEPLOYED ENGINEERING 101
Understand it.
Then build it.
You can be an experienced engineer and still be new to agents. Start with what each thing is and how it helps a person do useful work. Explore 48 original introductions across software, agents, cloud, security and delivery. Start here without a model key; each topic connects to deeper instruction and practice.

An ecosystem of hardware, models and software
Where does NVIDIA fit in an AI system?
NVIDIA builds processors and software used to run AI. A GPU does the numerical work; a model such as Nemotron contains learned parameters; NeMo tools help develop and improve models and agents; NIM packages model serving. Your application connects these parts to a useful customer workflow.
An FDE must explain which component solves the client's problem, who operates it and what evidence supports using it. That is more useful than presenting a wall of product logos.
CONNECT IT TO WHAT YOU KNOW
Start with something familiar.
Think of the layers in a familiar web service: hardware, operating tools, application libraries and a running service. Buying a server does not write your application; choosing an AI model does not build the service around it.
NVIDIA is the vendor. NeMo is a software suite, Nemotron is a model family, and NIM is a serving offering. They are different responsibilities rather than interchangeable names for an agent.
Words worth knowing
- Inference
- Running a trained model on an input to produce an output.
- Training
- Updating a model's parameters from data and an optimization objective.
- Serving
- Operating model inference as a usable service with request handling and limits.
ONE EXAMPLE / FICTIONAL CASE
Watch the work take shape.
A fictional maintenance team wants a private assistant. First identify the model that drafts responses, then the service that serves it, then the hardware and operators that keep the service available.

Compare your reasoning when you are ready
A model can be served without customizing it first. NeMo is useful when its specific development or evaluation tools address an observed requirement; it is not a compulsory box in every request path.
Keep notes in your own working copy. Moving through these cards does not record completion.
