LOCKEDIN / FORWARD-DEPLOYED ENGINEERING 101
Understand it.
Then build it.
You can be an experienced engineer and still be new to agents. Start with what each thing is and how it helps a person do useful work. Explore 48 original introductions across software, agents, cloud, security and delivery. Start here without a model key; each topic connects to deeper instruction and practice.

Model serving, optimized execution and distributed orchestration
How do NIM and the inference tools fit together?
NVIDIA NIM packages model inference as deployable microservices with an API. TensorRT LLM is an inference optimization library; Dynamo addresses distributed inference serving. These are different layers. The supported runtime and hardware depend on the exact model and release.
The FDE connects model execution to an authenticated service, capacity limits, monitoring, an update policy and a rollback plan.
CONNECT IT TO WHAT YOU KNOW
Start with something familiar.
Think of the difference between a packaged database service, its execution engine and a cluster scheduler. They can cooperate, but each answers a different operational question.
A container starting successfully does not establish task quality, tenant isolation or production readiness. Do not assume every NIM uses the same backend or that every model works on every GPU.
Words worth knowing
- Time to first token
- Delay until the first generated token is delivered.
- Throughput
- Work completed per unit time under stated conditions.
- Admission control
- Accepting work only when the service has a sufficient declared resource budget.
ONE EXAMPLE / FICTIONAL CASE
Watch the work take shape.
A private endpoint receives a maintenance request through an authenticated application. Admission control limits concurrent work; the service refuses or queues requests when the budget is exhausted.

Pin the configuration
Record model revision, container digest, serving profile, license and hardware compatibility.
A reproducible deployment candidateFROM RECOGNITION TO REASONING
Write the private endpoint's acceptance contract.
- 01
Pin a model/runtime combination and list compatibility evidence to collect.
- 02
Specify one successful request, one denied request and one overload result.
- 03
Name the owner, rollback trigger and evidence required to restore service.
An endpoint contract and an operational acceptance checklist.
Compare your reasoning when you are ready
An overloaded service needs a controlled queue or rejection path. Silent retries and unapproved provider fallback can defeat capacity and data-location requirements even when the model output looks correct.
Keep notes in your own working copy. Moving through these cards does not record completion.
TURN THE IDEA INTO USEFUL WORK
You can now go deeper.
Serving is an operational responsibility, not just a successful model download.
